Hey there - just found the site and I'm excited about getting together with all my old friends. The last reunion was a wonderful, very emotional experience.

I would absolutely love to come to the reunion. I agree with Alice that we need a date so the out of town people can plan. Let's come up with one and go with it!!!!

Its time for another big party. The last reunion was the bomb! Lots of old friends; lots of laughs and lots of fond memories. Let's not break this chain.

Greetings everyone,
It would be so nice if the P.S. 131 crowd could have a mini-reunion during the reunion. Last time, we met at the elementary school for a few pix. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hello!  Looking forward to saying happy 40th to my fellow classmates.  The 30th was memorable and I'm excited to see what everyone's been doing over the past 10 years...wow how time flies.  I'm fortunate to have remained in contact with classmates over the 40 years, and JHS has always been a topic of discussion.  Looking forward to finding some classmates who regretted not making the 30th reunion event!

Do we have a date yet?  I'm happy to help but with the summer beginning, I think we just need to chose a date and hope most of us can make it!
So much has changed in my life since the 30th. But one of the best changes was getting back in touch with a few dear friends.

I feel like I never left JHS.  I am a career NYC public high school teacher, business and technology education.  My first teaching appointment was at Jamaica.  I now work at John Bowne High School in Flushing.  I am now finishing my 25th year as a NYC high school teacher.  I am also an adjunct at Queensborough Communitiy College.  I realize now that some of the best teaching and teachers were at that school.  Would look forward to attend any reunion.  Was at the last one.  After leaving Jamaice I attended Long Island U. undergraduate and then St John's U. graduate.  I worked as an accountant for a few years before beginning my teaching career.  Great website and look forward to keeping in touch.

I always remember my days in JHS, I am living in Argentina since 1972, and it's imposible now to travel for the 40th meeting. I have my yearbook in my library and compare the photos of my classmates,it's very nice to see how we changed for better, I think it's because we haved a very good formation at the great JHS. I send my regards to all my classmates.

I very much enjoyed the 30th reunion, and definitely will sign up for the 40th. Just spoke to some of my friends from those years that went to Francis Lewis HS, and they just had their 40th, and they all felt it was a great event. I am sure ours at Jamaica HS will also be a great event for us all to remember. I look forward to seeing you all.

When thinking about how I'd best describe the events of my life to others, I use this true story from JHS.  Like all fables, it takes a while to get to the moral of the story, and I hope the journey there is enjoyable. ............................................Those of us who liked math, and who especially enjoyed Mr. Orphanos, chose to take Modern Math with him our last term in school. (Modern Math basically meant anything that was developed up to 1870, the rest being VERY intense and complex.  I'll tell you my JHS story of reaching the 'end of math' in another story) ............................................We were analyzing the problem of how to figure out how many people you needed to have in a room until you were almost guaranteed that two of them shared a birthday.  To answer this involved something called 'Matrix Algebra'  Without even ATTEMPTING to describe the whys and wherefores of matrix algebra, let me simply summarize by saying that we ended up with massive Sudoku-like grids filling EVERY one of the blackboards covering half the room.  To solve this looked to be a task. I don't remember the method, but I DO remember the slight anxiety I had looking at all the numbers, and the challenge we had in front of us to figure it out.  It would literally take hours. ............................................After letting us agonize for an appropriate amount of time, Mr. Orphanos pointed out that this most complex of Modern Math Problems had something in common with the most basic of multiplication - numbers could be 'factored out' to simplify the appearance of the problem. So, much to our amazement, he set to work demonstrating this for us, and in seconds we were left with only one number matrix to solve. Then, as Mr. Orphanos would ALWAYS say, the solution was 'trivial' (Which it was. As a reward for your following the story this far, the answer is that if you have 30 people in a room, two of them will have the same birthday. I have done this many times at parties - they stop laughing at me when I easily find the pair of people)........................................................................................ Now the moral of the storeeee:  Although the events of my life have been many and diverse, there aren't that many significant things left once I 'factor out' events that only have meaning to me, my family and those I work with.  Life seems to follow some mathematical rules.  So rest assured that if you ask me about myself I will spare you the unimportant details  and give you the essentials that make up the puzzle of my life.

So surprised to get an email from JHS today inviting me to the 40th reunion. I've never  had any contact with JHS since I left. I am amazed that I was "found" and feel quite excited about it.  Please feel free to write to me and make contact.
Warmly,
Esther

Do any of the 25-30 guys who were there, remember the "Great JAHNS IceCream Parlor Massacre of 1969?"
This occurence must have been the inspiration for scenes from the movie "Animal House." John Belushi would have been proud. If you were there and remember any details, DO TELL, or forever
hold your piece, of food.

Suggest posting the reunion even before the date is set on Classmates.com - there are alot of JHS 1969 grads listed on that website. There is a section for upcoming reunion events as well.

If it's on Oct 10th can't wait to be there! If it's Nov 7th then boohoo won't be able to show because of a previous committment- attending a wedding in Annapolis. So PLEASE MAKE IT THE 10th OF OCT!!!

Hi Everyone,
Hope you enjoy your reunion. The Class. Class of  '68 has their reunion last year and was wonderful.  Richard will be adding some pictures . If you want to see all the pictures and possible recognize some here is the link.

JHS Class 1968 Reunion

The biggest issue for a reunion is finding and contacting classmates. If everyone tries to contact their friends and tell them about the reunion helps spread the word.

Good luck.
